Borno

Borno, centre of winter sports, is situated in the middle Vallecamonica 75 km far from Brescia and Bergamo and 120 km far from Milan.  The winter resort has a lot of devices for carrying skiers up the slopes. The area of Monte Altissimo offers a series of pistes winding through meadows and coniferous woods in a scenery of rare beauty. For school groups there is a comfortable "school camp" at the bottom of the slopes, and for the lovers of cross-country skiing there is a course of 4 km at 1,330 m above sea level. If you want to learn to ski 18 masters are available at the local Ski School.

The skiing area has a modern system of programmed snowing, which is still being improved and covers 60 percent of the pistes from 1,000 to 1,700 m above sea level. The resort of Borno-Monte Altissimo is part of the regional circuit Skipass Lombardy and is also part of the circuit of Bergamo "Orobie Skipass". It can well accommodate and entertain the school groups which have been attending the resort for years for the classical "week on the snow". Hotels, from two to four stars, can accommodate about 600 people. There is also a modern and well equipped camping where the ski lifts start.

There are also various sport facilities for the spare time: a new polyvalent gymnasium, ice rinks and tennis courts. It is also possible to ride horses, to practice alpinism-ski, to have fun in the typical bars and pubs and end the evening at the disco. The cooking in the characteristic restaurants of the village and of the rifugi* along the pistes is particularly appetizing and delicious.

*rifugio: a wooden or masonry building at high altitude used as base for excursions or climbs, where you can stay overnight and have something to eat.
