Riva Valdobbia

Cross-Country Centre

The cross-country track of the “La Marmotta Rosa” Ski centre makes it possible to discover the man faces of the Valsesia, travelling it on skis on an itinerary designed for Nordic skiing, stretching for 12 km.

The track, dominated by the highest peaks of Monte Rosa, in particular by Punta Gnifetti (on a fine day one can clearly see the Capanna Regina Margherita) and Punta Parrot, crosses the River Sesia several times, leading the skier among broad-leaved trees and plateaux, and creating meetings with small hamlets or isolated houses, characterised by typical Walser architecture.

The track starts from Riva Valdobbia, initially descending until it reaches the avalanche barrier in the hamlet of Isolello, then it almost touches the first houses of Alagna Valsesia, before turning back one and for all towards the Cross-country Centre. The overall difficulty is mediumeasy and there is no lack of deviations to enable skiers to tackle only partial stretches. There is also a schools route.
